President Trump and His Twitter Antics
Blog Post One: The
President and Social Media
Whether you like him or not one of the most questionable aspects
of Donald Trump and his presidency would have to undoubtedly be his use of
social media, specifically, Twitter. Throughout the entire election tweets
emerged from the president that left not only the American people commenting
and poking fun, but the entire world as well. There were also tweets that emerged
that totally contradicted opinions he stood for as a presidential candidate. Now
that he is our 45th president, his shameless tweets have raised
controversy that leaves many wondering if what he says is actually appropriate,
considering he is in fact the leader of our country.
“Despite the constant negative press covfefe,” he tweeted in
May of 2017. This is one of several tweets that left the world thinking,
“what?” Before hitting the tweet button that allows 140 characters of free
speech, maybe he should learn the importance of spell check because grammar
matters even if our president doesn’t think so. How can we teach kids anything
when our highest power refuses to learn?
While I think it is extremely important that the President
of the United States keep up to date with the rise of social media and directly
speak to the American people, I do feel there is a point to which a filter
needs to satiate what they put out into the public. We are in a world where
literally every thing you say online can be saved with a simple click of a
screen shot. Sure, it can be deleted, but it can always be found and this is
why I feel Donald Trump should truly get a grip on some of the comments he
presents via social media. Sometimes it is flat out embarrassing. I respect his
initiative to say exactly what he feels, but as high of a power as he attains,
I think he should respect others and not act like such a bully when it comes to
matters that are very important to the reputation of our nation.
In essence, Donald seems to be using twitter to bash and
embarrass citizens, businesses, and many world leaders. Conspiracy theories are
thrown out and, as president, some people will believe anything he says. It is
exhausting to keep up with his crazy Twitter antics and there are more important
things he needs to keep himself busy with. This is one side of social media
that can be extremely aggravating.
